Organizing A New Special Interest Group

If you are interested in organizing a new Special Interest Group, we are interested in helping you get going.

You will need a few things to get going:

  • A Special Interest Group Leader - This can really be any one, but it would make the most sense if they were a student who had some amount of skill in the topic of interest. Also, remember that being a SIG Leader can be time consuming, so make sure you have some extra time in your schedule before making the commitment.
  • A Topic - You will want a topic that will be of interest to CS students, as well as being useful to them. The topic can be just about anything you want, as long as it relates to Computer Science. Just make sure it is something that the ACM and the CS Department would be willing to back. (They're responsible for all of this!)
  • A Schedule - As you are preparing to make a SIG, you will want to plan out a meeting schedule. You are free to pick any schedule you want, but keep in mind that students are busy people, event without any extra activities to attend. You might also want to take a look at the schedules of other SIGs to try to avoid conflicts when possible.

Once you have these three things, contact us with your new SIG idea!
