Leadership Meeting Minutes - 18 August 2009
  • Issue of not having a president
    • RB Whitaker has volunteered to be president, especially if no one else is interested
    • We'll discuss this again in the next meeting
  • Meeting time for rest of the semester
    • We'll send out an email to get feedback
  • Discussion with Dr. Renee Bryce, advisor for the ACMW
    • Would like us to send out an email to our mailing list about their book selling fundraiser
      • They have a deal with Amazon.com where they get a small portion of the money from certain books sold on Amazon, as long as the people bought the book through advertising done by them.
      • They want us to send out an email to our mailing list telling people about that to help them with their fundraising effort
    • Wants the ACM to help them buy and run a popcorn machine
      • The machine costs somewhere between $200 and $300 + shipping and handling
      • The machine makes 4 gallons of popcorn at a time
      • The idea is to have a weekly event where we give away free popcorn, have some sort of activity (perhaps along the lines of board games), and have a fun/social event for it every week
      • Dr. Bryce suggested that Coke might be willing to give us free soda for the event
      • We're expecting something like $100 for supplies per semester
      • We discussed doing it on Wednesdays from 11:30 - 2:30 every week
      • We would need people to be there to watch over the popcorn machine - Dr. Bryce said that we would probably need to do this more often than the ACMW because we have more people
      • Dr. Bryce indicated that the ACMW would rather spend the money on this than on the opening social
      • The ACMW will be talking about this more when school starts
      • We will talk about this in the next meeting as well
    • Dr. Bryce also mentioned that we could have a coding competition for a fundraiser
      • At her school (granted, one that was much bigger) they had 70 people attend
      • People paid a fee to be in the competition
      • Companies were invited to provide prizes, and in many ways, pay for the event
      • The ACM took the entrance fees for the competition for the fundraiser
      • Students were asked to supply their resume
      • The resumes of the top few teams were given to the companies, so everyone was happy.
  • Also briefly talked about doing a launch party for Halo 3: ODST when it comes out this fall, possibly as a fundraiser.
