Constitution of the USU Student Chapter of the ACM (Association of Computing Machinery)


Article I - Name, Purpose, and General Statements

Section 1

The official name of this organization shall be the Association of Computing Machinery USU Student Chapter.

Section 2

This club shall operate as a nonprofit organization.

Section 3

This club shall abide by the applicable policies and procedures of ASUSU and the Utah State University Student Code.

Section 4

This organization shall exist for the following purposes:

  • A. To provide workshops for the purpose of increasing academic and industrial knowledge of computer science.
  • B. To provide opportunities for the membership to meet and discuss important computer science issues and topics.
  • C. To provide social activities and events for the membership.

Article II - Membership

Section 1

Voting membership is open to all students, faculty, and staff at Utah State University. Membership is open to all students without regard to race, creed, color, sex, national orgin, or disability.

Section 2

No more than 1/3 of the voting membership shall consist of non-students.

Section 3

To become a member, one must fil out the membership application form online, or fill out the paper based form and return it to the club secretary.


Article III - Officers

Section 1

The officers of this club shall consist of the following:

  • A. President
  • B. Vice-President
  • C. Treasurer
  • D. Workshop Coordinator Chairperson
  • E. Activities Coordinator Chairperson
  • F. Fundraising Coordinator Chairperson
  • G. Secretary
  • H. Other positions as needed

Section 2

Officers are elected within reasonable time limits at the beginning of each Fall Semester and shall serve until the following Fall Semester, when new officers are elected. Officers shall be elected by plurality of the voting members present, providing a quorum is present. Officers will be removed if the violate any of the policies and procedures of ASUSU or as outlined in the Student Code.


Article IV - Committees

Section 1

The standing committees of the club shall be:

  • A. Executive Committee: Consisting of all elected officers and chairpersons of all other committees. This committee shall set meeting dates, membership requirements, and determine committee assignments.
  • B. Scholarship Committee: When donations or fundraising efforts permit, the scholarship committee will determine scholarship awards and their recipients. This committe shall consist of at least the following: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Faculty Advisor, One Other Faculty Member.

Article V - Financial Matters

Section 1

This club shall not provide monetary gain, incidentally or otherwise, to its directors or membership except as payment for services rendered in the form of wages salaries, or incentives. When funds permit, scholarships may be awarded according to the discretion of the Scholarship Committee as described above.

Section 2

The Treasurer will handle all financial transactions within the club. They will work wit hthe club advisor or other appropriate Computer Science faculty member who is appointed to monitor the budget of the club.

Section 3

All income from donations or fundraisers will be turned in to the Treasurer who will turn it over to the Computer Science department for deposit in department accounts and registered in the club budget.
